Omair Farooq is a New Delhi-based cinematographer, editor, and director specializing in both fiction and non-fiction storytelling. With experience working with national and international media companies such as Confluence Media, BBC, Deutsche Welle, PBS, ABC (Australia), and The Wire. Omair brings a unique vision to every project. His passion for visual storytelling and attention to detail set him apart in the industry.

Omair Farooq is a filmmaker, cinematographer, photographer and editor based in New Delhi. A graduate of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, one of India’s premier film schools. He specializes in crafting narratives that explore socio-political, environmental, and cultural themes. His projects, often focused on marginalized communities, reflect a deep commitment to social awareness and artistic integrity.
He has worked at Confluence Media, a Delhi based production company as a producer where he was responsible for documentary and podcast production. He has collaborated with major media organizations like PBS, Deutsche Welle (DW), ABC (Australia) and The Wire. Combining his understanding of cinema and experience in journalism, he has created a series of critically acclaimed video reports for The Wire. Notably, his work on the India Votes 2024 series documented the political and social pulse of the Indian elections. He has also shot a documentary featuring the bad boy of Indian politics, Asaduddin Owaisi, which was funded by the University of Göttingen in Germany.
In addition to his documentary and journalistic endeavors, Omair has ventured into fiction filmmaking, co-writing an episode of one of Yash Raj Films’ upcoming web series. His short documentaries, including Raihana: A Song of Resilience, A Witch’s Crusade, and Patangbaaz, have been lauded for their evocative visuals and emotional depth. He has presented papers at conferences at the Cambridge University and has worked as post production supervisor at the Deptt. Of Mass Communication at Aligarh Muslim University.
From photography to cinematography for fiction and non-fiction alike, Omair’s work embodies a blend of technical mastery and creative vision. His films have been screened at festivals across India, and his photography has been published and exhibited at acclaimed outlets, such as Lens Magazine.
